Last month there were calls from some participating countries
for the regional mini-Olympics to be postponed because of the
SARS crisis in Vietnam and elsewhere in the region.

Vietnam, however, declared on April 28 that it had brought the
spread of the virus under control after 20 days with no new
infections.

Vietnam is hosting the Southeast Asian Games for the first
time.
