JAKARTA: The Jakarta Post badminton team knocked out Pos Kota
3-0 in the opening day of the Media Badminton Tournament at the
Bung Karno Badminton Hall here on Monday.
A'an Suryana opened The Post's sail to victory with the 15-1,
15-0 thumping of Berlian Siregar. Pandaya G./Agustinus N. doubled
the lead after overcoming a set down to seal a 11-15, 15-9, 19-9
win over Gunawan/Nova L.
Leo Wahyudi/Sodik faced little difficulty in dispatching
Bambang P./Agus S., 15-1, 15-1 in the second doubles tie.
Fourteen print and electronic media teams are taking part in
the KO competition. Other teams to reach the next stage of the
competition were Bisnis Indonesia, a 3-0 winner over Sinar

Scott clinches Scandinavian crown
MALMO, Sweden: Australia's Adam Scott won the fourth European
Tour title of his career here on Sunday when he clinched the
Scandinavian Masters by two shots.
Scott, who had shared the overnight lead, carded a final round
69 for a tournament score of 11-under-par 277 with England's Nick
Dougherty two shots behind.
Dougherty had birdied the last hole to take second spot with
Luke Donald, Andrew Coltart and Robert Karlsson taking third
place on eight under.
"It was a real relief to go out and play well," said the 23-
year-old Australian who won 316,660 euros (US$354,000) to take

HAMBURG, Germany: Germany's five-time Tour de France runner-up
Jan Ullrich could not give the home crowd victory in the 253km
World Cup race here on Sunday, having to settle for third place
in the "HEW Cyclassics"
Italian rider Paolo Bettini won the race - to move to within
three points of overall leader Peter van Petegem - with
compatriot Davide Rebellin in second.
Ullrich admitted the sprinting of Bettini gave him no chance
of repeating his 1997 victory at the same venue.
"Bettini is simply too quick as a sprinter but I am happy with
third place," said the 29-year-old 1997 Tour de France winner.

FRANKFURT, Germany: Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemelo lashed
out on Sunday at the rising costs of Formula One for both fans
and the teams.
"I am concerned when I see that the admission tickets for a
race are too expensive for young people," he told the Frankfurter
Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
"Spectators are paying more for a weekend at a Grand Prix than
an airline ticket for the Caribbean."
He also criticized the allocation of cash to the teams from
the organizers of the world championship.
"In Formula One, the teams receive nothing either from the
advertising at the track or from the gate receipts. We have only
47 percent of the TV rights."--AFP
