Joy of Orphans Shopping for Eid Needs at Aceh Market

Orphaned children shopped for sandals, clothing and various Eid necessities at the traditional Atjeh market in Banda Aceh on Thursday, 12 March 2026, accompanied by caregivers. The Banda Aceh city government facilitated and provided support to 1,265 orphaned children from nine sub-districts through the joint shopping programme for orphans (belanja bareng yatim), as an effort to honour the children in welcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. Mayor Illiza Saaduddin Djamal accompanied the orphaned children whilst they selected clothing and necessities for the holiday. The programme represents the local government’s commitment to ensuring disadvantaged children have the means to participate in and celebrate the important Islamic festival with dignity and joy.
