Journalists trained in East Timor
DILI, East Timor: One hundred and four journalists and public relations officials from Indonesia's 27th province of East Timor joined a three-day training program which started here last Thursday.
The program was meant to prepare them to become members of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), according to secretary of East Timor's PWI Justin Herman.
Association chairman Sofyan Lubis and head of East Timor Family Planning Coordinating Board A Budiyato spoke at the event.
In Bandung, West Java, three veteran journalists received awards for their work from the West Java branch of the association. The three were Atje Bastaman, 85, MO Koesman, 70, and Rohdi Partaatmadja, 80, who were considered to have made very important contributions to the growth of the Indonesian press in its early days.
The presentation ceremony of the awards were led by West Java Deputy Governor Ukman Sutaryan, Antara reported. (swe)
