Journalists to clean river

JAKARTA (JP): Members of the North Jakarta Unit of the Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) are planning a clean- up of the Lagoa Buntu river to commemorate National Press Day on Feb. 9.

The coordinator, La Ode Hafid Anwar, told Antara that the social service will involve at least 1,000 people, including journalists and residents from 31 subdistricts in the mayoralty.

"We will also plant 500 trees and meet the residents living close to the river to discuss the environment," Antara quoted Anwar as saying yesterday.

He said journalists have been active in reporting on the environment but slow to do something about it.
