Journalists missing in Sunda Strait become news topic in Malaysian media

Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - News regarding Indonesian journalists and crew members who have lost contact while covering the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau in the waters of the Sunda Strait has become a prominent topic in several mainstream Malaysian media outlets.

Monitoring by ANTARA in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning revealed that Malaysian media, including RTM, Astro Awani, TVS, Utusan Malaysia, Buletin TV3, and Berita Harian, are reporting on the disappearance of five Indonesian journalists, along with one ship captain, one crew member, and one guide during a mission to cover Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity.

The five journalists were reported to have lost contact while using a speedboat to cover the volcanic activity in the waters of the Sunda Strait, Banten.

As of Thursday (10/9) morning, a joint search and rescue (SAR) team is still conducting searches for the entire group.

The list of the five missing journalists includes:

• M. Bagus Khoirunas, photojournalist for Antara News Agency.

• Ari Basuki, photojournalist for Merdeka.com.

• Yudistiro Pranoto, photojournalist for iNews.id.

• Firman Daus, journalist for Anadolu Agency.

• Donal Husni, freelance photojournalist.

In addition to the five journalists, there were three other individuals on board the vessel: the captain, a crew member, and a guide.

Consequently, a total of eight people remain missing, according to the latest data compiled from the Banten SAR Office.
