Jordanian Military Intercepts Four Iranian Missiles in Aqaba Airspace

The Jordanian military has confirmed it intercepted four missiles fired from Iran after explosions were heard in the southern city of Aqaba on Wednesday. The incident triggered warning sirens in the area to anticipate the possibility of further attacks.

According to a report by Jordan’s national news agency, Petra, a military source revealed that their air defence systems detected a total of six missiles heading towards Jordanian sovereign territory. The missiles were engaged shortly after entering the country’s airspace.

Of the six projectiles detected, four were successfully destroyed in the air by defence systems. The other two missiles reportedly fell in remote, uninhabited areas. The military confirmed there were no casualties or property damage resulting from falling debris or the projectiles themselves.

The Jordanian military stressed that its airspace is under continuous operational surveillance to guarantee national security. However, authorities did not specify the exact locations of the missile impacts or the interception points for security reasons.

The impact of the incident also affected civilian aviation activity in the surrounding area. Israeli media, Ynet, reported that an Arkia airline flight from Tel Aviv to Eilat was forced to alter its route after explosions were heard from the direction of Jordan. Additionally, an international flight from Abu Dhabi to Tel Aviv reportedly experienced a delay while in the air. The Jordanian military remains on high alert to monitor the situation along their air borders.
