Amman (ANTARA) - The King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Abdullah II, has called for increased international efforts to send humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Gaza without restrictions.

The call was made by King Abdullah during a meeting with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Wednesday to discuss national and regional health priorities.

During the meeting, which took place at the Basman Palace in Amman, the King emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships between Jordan and the WHO to achieve national health goals.

He also highlighted the importance of improving mechanisms to respond to health challenges.

On February 4, Tedros said that more than 18,500 patients in Gaza need specialized medical treatment that is not available in the area.

Tedros emphasized that, “the Gaza health system is in dire need of rehabilitation and reconstruction to reduce dependence on medical evacuations…. This is a top priority now.”
