Jordan Successfully Intercepts 10 Iranian Ballistic Missiles Targeting US Bases
The Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) have confirmed that their air defence systems successfully intercepted 10 ballistic missiles traversing the kingdom’s airspace on Wednesday (2/9). This attack is part of a massive military escalation launched by Iran against United States (US) assets in the Middle East region.
In an official statement, the Jordanian military detailed that a total of 13 ballistic missiles were detected entering their airspace. The majority of these were destroyed mid-air before reaching their targets.
“Jordanian air defences intercepted an attack consisting of 13 ballistic missiles entering our national airspace. Ten missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed, while the remaining three fell in areas far from residential settlements,” wrote the statement from the Jordanian Armed Forces, as quoted from Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Previously, on Tuesday (1/9), Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) openly declared that it had launched ballistic missile attacks on several US military bases, including those located within Jordanian territory. The attack was claimed as a retaliatory action following US air aggression against Iranian sovereign territory.
The IRGC claimed that the operation successfully hit strategic targets. In its report, Tehran stated that the attack resulted in numerous casualties among US military personnel. Furthermore, the IRGC claimed to have destroyed base infrastructure as well as several US military helicopters.
This exchange of attacks marks a new boiling point in the conflict between Washington and Tehran. Jordan, geographically positioned between the two warring parties, is now on high alert to protect its territorial sovereignty.
As of the time of this report, the United States has not provided official details regarding the exact number of casualties or the extent of damage to its bases resulting from the missile attack. However, previous retaliatory threats from US President Donald Trump have signalled that this conflict risks escalating into an open war in the region.
