Jordan Shoots Down Five Iranian Missiles Following Massive US Strikes
Jordanian air defences shot down five missiles launched from Iran on Thursday (30/7) morning local time. This occurred just hours after the United States military announced it had completed a “massive wave of strikes against Iran”. The attack was in response to a previous Iranian missile strike on a US base in Jordan.
No casualties were reported from the missile interceptions by Jordan, said a spokesperson for the country’s armed forces, as quoted by the Jordanian news agency Petra and reported by Al Arabiya on Thursday (30/7/2026).
Earlier, US Central Command, or CENTCOM, said in a social media post that for more than two hours the US had struck “dozens” of targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including military command centres, missile and drone facilities, and surveillance and coastal defence sites.
This new attack came hours after US President Donald Trump vowed to strike Iran “very hard” after an Iranian missile attack targeted a military base in Jordan housing US troops.
The latest attack occurred after US and Saudi forces struck Iran-backed militias in Iraq.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the joint US-Saudi airstrikes. Tehran said the attack was a flagrant violation of Baghdad’s sovereignty and a deliberate attempt by Washington and Israel to expand the regional war.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the aggressive attack by the United States and Saudi Arabia on several areas in Iraq,” the ministry said in a statement released on Wednesday (29/7) local time, as reported by Iranian media Press TV on Thursday (30/7/2026).
The Iranian ministry called the attack “a blatant aggression against Iraq’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity” and “a conspicuous violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law.”
Tehran warned that the attack was “in line with the ambitions of the United States and the Zionist regime to expand the scope of war and conflict in the West Asia region.”
