Jordan Intercepts Three Iranian Missiles, No Casualties Reported

Jordan’s air defences intercepted three missiles launched from Iran towards the kingdom on Sunday, while a fourth fell in a remote southern area without causing casualties or material damage, state broadcaster Jordan Radio and Television Corporation reported on social media platform X. The Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army pledged to continue monitoring the country’s airspace “with the highest level of readiness” and to “deal decisively with any threat” targeting the nation, the broadcaster said in a series of new posts. In an earlier post, the broadcaster mentioned that sirens had been activated in various regions of Jordan. Meanwhile, some media reports citing the Israeli military said on Sunday that missiles launched from Iran towards the coastal city of Aqaba, Jordan’s southernmost city, were identified and successfully intercepted by Israeli and Jordanian forces. Earlier the same day, the United States Embassy in Amman issued a security alert stating that Aqaba’s airport and port had been evacuated due to a “specific and credible threat.” The embassy also urged US citizens to avoid travel to those locations until further notice. The embassy further updated its warning for Americans to avoid military bases in Jordan. However, Jordanian authorities later denied the US embassy’s claims, stating that both facilities were operating normally. These latest developments come amid rising tensions in the Middle East as the US and Iran exchange strikes. The US has launched eight waves of attacks against targets in Iran, while Iran retaliated by striking US bases and facilities in several Gulf countries. On Sunday, Kuwaiti authorities said a power generation and water desalination facility in the country was attacked by Iran for the second time in two days. The Iranian attack sparked a fire and disrupted electricity production. Bahraini authorities also stated that their air defence systems intercepted a number of Iranian air attacks targeting the country.
