Jordan Intercepts Six Iranian Missiles, Four Destroyed

Istanbul (ANTARA) - The Jordanian military announced on Wednesday that it had intercepted four Iranian missiles after explosions were heard in the city of Aqaba in the south of the country, with warning sirens sounding following a potential attack.

Military sources told the Jordanian national news agency Petra that Jordan’s air defence system detected six missiles fired from Iran towards the country’s territory.

The missiles were intercepted immediately after entering Jordanian airspace.

According to the source, four missiles were successfully destroyed, whilst the other two fell in remote, uninhabited areas without causing any casualties or property damage.

The Jordanian military also affirmed that the country’s airspace remains under continuous operational monitoring.

Petra did not specify the locations of the Iranian missiles that were intercepted or that fell. However, Jordanian media had previously reported that explosions were heard in Aqaba after warning sirens were sounded to alert residents to a possible attack from Iran.

Meanwhile, the Israeli media outlet Ynet reported that an Arkia flight from Tel Aviv to Eilat changed its flight path after explosions were heard from the direction of Jordan.

The report also stated that a flight from Abu Dhabi to Tel Aviv experienced a delay whilst still in the air.
