Jordan Deploys Air Defences to Intercept 20 Iranian Missiles
The Jordanian military reported that its air defence systems intercepted 20 missiles launched from Iranian territory on Thursday (11/6), local time. The interception activity occurred after Tehran announced retaliatory strikes against United States bases in the Middle East. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously announced that its forces targeted a US military command centre in Jordan, specifically striking ‘Al-Azraq Air Base and its control centre, using 12 ballistic missiles’. The Jordanian military, as reported by AFP and Anadolu Agency on Thursday (11/6/2026), said that the Iranian missile attack was successfully intercepted. ‘At dawn on Thursday (11/6), the Jordanian air defence systems and the Royal Jordanian Air Force intercepted and shot down 20 missiles launched from Iran towards the Azraq area in Zarqa Province,’ a Jordanian military official said in a statement, referring to the area 80 kilometres east of the capital Amman. ‘The interception resulted in the falling of some debris, without any loss of life or material damage,’ the statement emphasised. A military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces, quoted by Anadolu Agency, said that engineering teams have handled the missile debris to ensure there were no explosives inside. The IRGC and the Iranian Armed Forces had earlier announced a series of coordinated retaliatory military operations targeting US military installations in the Middle East region. In a joint statement on Thursday (11/6) morning, the IRGC and the Iranian military described the retaliatory operation as a response to the latest US aggression that targeted various areas in southern Iran. The IRGC claimed that ‘as many as 18 key targets belonging to the criminal US military’ were struck and destroyed at bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, including Ali Al Salem base and Ahmad Al Jaber base in Kuwait, as well as Sheikh Isa base in Bahrain. In a separate announcement, as quoted by Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC also claimed to have targeted a US military command centre in Jordan with waves of ballistic missile attacks. The IRGC claimed its attack had destroyed the facility and ‘a large number of fighter jets’.
