Amman (ANTARA) - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned the seizure of land belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Silwan City, East Jerusalem, which is currently occupied by Israel, the news agency WAFA reported on Saturday (20/6).

The Ministry described the seizure as a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the existing historical and legal status quo.

Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, stated that Jordan firmly rejects all unilateral and illegal actions, as well as provocative practices aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites.

Al-Majali emphasised that Israel holds no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or the Islamic and Christian holy sites within the city.

He urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and to pressure Israel to cease all illegal actions in Jerusalem.

He also called on Israel to end violations against the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites and to respect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Al-Majali reaffirmed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the Palestinian territories remains the only path towards a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability for the region.
