Istanbul (ANTARA) — Jordanian security forces have arrested three people suspected of carrying out an armed terrorist attack on a church last week, a local official said on Monday.

Jordanian Government Spokesman Mohammad Al-Momani said on social media platform X that the three suspects were detained at an empty house in the south of Karak Governorate.

The attack on a funeral gathering at Hamoud village church in Karak on Friday (23 September) left nine people dead and 25 others injured.

Al-Momani said the suspects opened fire on security forces during the raid, and officers returned fire.

The suspects were taken into custody after the exchange of fire, despite being injured, he said, adding that no Jordanian security personnel were wounded in the operation.

Security officers also seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition during the raid on Monday, he added.

Following the attack, the Jordanian government announced three days of national mourning.

During the mourning period, the Jordanian flag was flown at half-mast at ministry buildings, government offices and public institutions.
