Jombang Police Intensify Zero-Alcohol Raids to Secure NU Congress
Ahead of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress, the Jombang Resort Police are tightening security across the entire jurisdiction of Jombang Regency. The measure is intended to ensure public order and guarantee that the Congress takes place free from the circulation of alcoholic beverages (zero alcohol).
“We are committed to zero alcohol and have instructed all personnel to increase their readiness for securing the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress,” said Jombang Police Chief AKBP Ardi Kurniawan in a statement in Jombang on Sunday (23/8).
Jombang Police have been running the Zero Alcohol programme consistently since January 2025. The circulation of alcoholic beverages is considered one of the main triggers of various criminal acts and public order disturbances.
Since the Congress location was set in Jombang, routine raids have been held at various alcohol sales points. In 2025, Jombang Police seized 30,763 bottles of alcoholic beverages of various brands. Meanwhile, from January to June 2026, officers confiscated more than 7,000 bottles.
“This success cannot be separated from the consistency of all personnel in eradicating the circulation of alcoholic beverages,” he said.
The Police Chief reminded all personnel not to play games with or profit from the circulation of alcohol. Any form of violation is guaranteed to receive strict sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations. This law enforcement measure is also aimed at maintaining the dignity of Jombang Regency as a ‘city of santri’.
“All types of alcoholic beverages, whether arak, tuak or others, must be eradicated to uphold religious values as well as to comply with statutory regulations,” he said.
The consistency in eradicating alcohol has proven to have a positive impact on reducing crime rates in Jombang. Crime figures such as murder, robbery, assault and brawls, which were high in early 2025, have fallen significantly.
“In fact, from August to November 2025, Jombang Regency was one of the areas considered safe nationally,” he explained.
Appreciation was conveyed to all Jombang Police personnel and sector police for their dedication to maintaining order in the region.
“This success is the result of real work built through dedication and consistency, not merely opinion or momentary assessment,” he said.
