Jokowi's Response to JK's Demand to Show Original Diploma
President of the Republic of Indonesia’s 7th term, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has emphasised that diplomas are private documents, thus he holds full rights to their privacy.
Instead of complying with the demands, Jokowi issued a counter-challenge to those accusing his diploma of being fake to provide concrete evidence for their claims.
“Those making the accusations should be the ones to prove it, not me being told to show it,” said Jokowi on Friday (10/4).
Jokowi expressed his concern that complying with such demands would be a poor decision in society’s view of an accusation.
“Then everyone could make accusations, and the accused would be told to show proof. That’s backwards,” he stated.
Regarding the legal process, Jokowi reminded that his side had officially reported the accusations made by Roy Suryo and associates to the Metro Jaya Police since last year.
However, to date, the case has not progressed beyond the investigation stage.
He urged the police to accelerate the handling of the case so it could soon be brought to trial.
“This has been almost a year. Proceed to P21 and hand it over to the court so we can show what’s true and what’s not,” said Jokowi.
For Jokowi, the court is the only proper forum for seeking legal certainty.
He also expressed his readiness to reveal his original diploma if requested by the panel of judges during the trial.
“The forum is clear; the legal forum is in the court,” he said.
“If the judge asks to show the original diploma, I will show it. From primary school, junior high, senior high, bachelor’s degree, all of them I will show,” he added.
Previously, besides issuing the demand, JK also highlighted the ongoing issue regarding Jokowi’s diploma.
JK also stated that the polemic surrounding Jokowi’s diploma is not only causing material losses but also sparking division in society due to endless public debates.
“Our time is wasted, the costs are high, and division occurs in society. Pro and con is division, fighting it out on TV. That disrupts our national character in that way,” said JK on Wednesday (8/4).
Furthermore, JK complained that the polemic surrounding Jokowi’s diploma has brought losses to many parties.
Personally, he felt he was also a victim because he had to waste a lot of time and energy as his name was continuously dragged into the issue.
“It disturbs society, wastes time, harms Mr Jokowi, harms everyone; tens of billions of rupiah are wasted on lawyers or like me, my time is lost, involved,” said JK.
According to the view of Jokowi’s deputy during the 2014-2019 government period, this fuss could actually be resolved very simply if Jokowi was willing to show his original diploma directly.
“Actually, the problem is simple, because I believe Mr Jokowi has the original diploma. So, let’s stop this matter by Mr Jokowi just showing his original diploma,” he said.
JK has also reported Rismon Sianipar to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.
The report was registered under number LP/B/135/IV/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
This legal step was taken following allegations of spreading hoax news narrating that JK was the funder for Roy Suryo amid the whirlpool of the Jokowi diploma polemic.
