Jokowi's Response Regarding AHY-Puan Allegedly Spreading Fake Diploma Rumours
President of the Republic of Indonesia’s 7th, Joko Widodo, stated that he does not wish to speculate regarding the names of figures mentioned as spreaders of the fake diploma rumour on social media. They are Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Puan Maharani, up to Habib Rizieq Shihab.
The names of several of those figures emerged after the circulation of a video uploaded to the YouTube channel “Dibikin Channel” on 22 March 2026. In the video’s narration, several of those figures are mentioned as having connections to the spreading of accusations regarding the fake diploma rumour about Jokowi, although not accompanied by verified evidence.
In response to this, Jokowi chose to act cautiously. He emphasised that he does not want to get caught up in speculation or accusations against any party.
“I also do not want to accuse anyone. Let the legal process and other processes run as they are,” said Jokowi when met by journalists at his home in Sumber Ward, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Solo, Central Java, on Friday, 3 April 2026.
When asked about the emergence of the rumour allegedly originating from Rismon Sianipar, Jokowi also refrained from commenting at length. He asked that it be inquired directly to the person concerned. “Yes, ask him,” Jokowi said briefly. Rismon is an academic who researched Jokowi’s diploma.
Rismon was designated as a suspect over the fake diploma rumour about Jokowi. He then met Jokowi and proposed a resolution to the legal case through the restorative justice mechanism. The restorative justice request was submitted by Rismon on 11 March 2026.
“Restorative justice is the authority of the Metro Jaya Police, the authority of the investigators. Only when Mr Rismon Sianipar came here to apologise and I forgave him, that’s it,” said Jokowi.
Before Rismon Sianipar, two people, namely Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis, also applied for restorative justice in the case of alleged defamation and name tarnishing over the fake diploma accusations against Jokowi. From those restorative justice applications, the Metro Jaya Police issued a Letter of Order to Stop Investigation (SP3) against both of them.
Previously, Jokowi, accompanied by his legal team, reported the case of alleged defamation and name tarnishing related to the fake diploma accusations to the Metro Jaya Police on 30 April 2025.
