Jokowi's Political Safari: Analyst Says Aimed at Boosting PSI Votes and Gibran's Leverage for 2029
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Adi Prayitno, Executive Director of Parameter Politik Indonesia, commented on President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) upcoming visits to several regions. He stated that the visits aim to help achieve his political targets for 2029 through consolidation in various regions. “Many suspect Jokowi’s political safari is part of reviving his political influence after leaving office. The aim is likely to boost PSI’s votes and strengthen Gibran’s political leverage for 2029,” Adi told Kompas.com on Thursday (28 May 2026). The regions Jokowi is visiting are also believed to correspond to his traditional support bases from previous elections. “Politically, East Indonesia, including Sumatra and West Java, have shown strong support for Jokowi in past presidential elections. This is a retracing of his electoral footsteps,” he said. Jokowi is reportedly starting his journey from Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and West Java (Jabar). “He has stated Lampung, NTT, and Jabar. Soon,” Bestari told Kompas.com on Wednesday (27 May 2026). “Insha’Allah, he will also visit PSI structures in the regions. He mentioned volunteers as well,” he said.
