Jokowi's Legal Team Requests Open Trial for Diploma Case

Firman Pangaribuan, legal counsel for the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, hopes that the trial for the defendants in the alleged fake diploma case will be held openly.

He stated that this is intended to rectify information that has been deemed to have deviated significantly within the public sphere regarding this case.

“We also hope that this can be broadcast well, because we want things to be clear and transparent, as there have been constant allegations that the diploma is fake and accusations against Mr Jokowi that aim to imprison him,” said Firman during a ‘Head to Head’ segment on CNN Indonesia on Wednesday (1/7).

Firman is also pushing for the trial to be open to the public when Jokowi is present during witness examinations. He noted that he is encouraging the presiding panel of judges to implement this.

“And I am encouraging the Panel of Judges to do so,” he added.

The case involving alleged slander and defamation regarding the authenticity of Jokowi’s diploma has now entered the trial phase.

On Thursday (2/7), the first trial for Dr Tifa was held at the East Jakarta District Court. The panel of judges presiding over the trial will be led by Chief Judge Christina Endarwati.

Meanwhile, the case involving Roy Suryo cannot yet proceed to trial as it is awaiting the outcome of the pretrial process currently taking place at the South Jakarta District Court.
