Jokowi's Lampung Visit Seen as Effort to Maintain Political Communication
The visit of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to Lampung Province has drawn attention from various community elements and youth organisations. The agenda of Jokowi’s meeting with the public is considered an important step in maintaining political communication between the nation’s leaders and the people.
The General Chairman of the Indonesian Baramuda Association (PBI), Ferdiansyah Rusman, who followed Jokowi’s visit to Lampung, stated that Jokowi’s presence among the community demonstrates a commitment to continue listening to public aspirations even though he is no longer in government. He emphasised that the direct communication pattern that has been a hallmark of Jokowi’s leadership remains relevant in strengthening public participation in national development.
"Mr Jokowi’s presence in Lampung is not merely a national gathering, but also provides a space for the community to convey various issues and their hopes directly. The people’s aspirations must remain the foundation in determining the direction of national policy," he explained.
Ferdiansyah noted that various inputs obtained from regional communities have strategic value in supporting the sustainability of the development programmes currently being run by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. "Development continuity requires synergy between national leadership experience and the real needs of the people on the ground," he said.
According to Ferdiansyah, Jokowi still maintains a strong emotional connection with the public. This was evident from the enthusiasm of residents who welcomed his arrival at several points during the Lampung visit. The phenomenon shows that public trust in leadership that is close to the people remains an important factor in the dynamics of national politics.
"Mr Jokowi has left a political legacy in the form of a culture of listening to the people directly. This value must be preserved and become part of future governance," he asserted.
Furthermore, Ferdiansyah confirmed that PBI supports every step aimed at strengthening national unity, maintaining political stability, and overseeing the success of the Prabowo-Gibran administration’s development agenda. He expressed hope that Jokowi’s visits to various regions could serve as a bridge between public aspirations and the national development agenda.
Indonesia currently requires collaboration from all elements of the nation to face global economic challenges, strengthen national resilience, and realise the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. Therefore, spaces for dialogue between national figures and the community must continue to be built to maintain optimism and national unity.
"We see what Mr Jokowi is doing as a form of national contribution. When the public is given space to be heard, public trust in the state will grow stronger. Ultimately, this will become a major asset for the success of the Prabowo-Gibran administration in realising sustainable and equitable development," he concluded.
