Jokowi's Indonesia Tour May Be to Address Diploma Controversy, Says PDIP's Djarot
Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) plans to tour several regions across the country. PDIP Central Leadership Council (DPP) Chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat has no issue with the plan. “His visiting various regions would actually strengthen our party, making it more cohesive internally and in grassroots engagement. He is free to travel wherever he wishes,” Djarot Saiful Hidayat said at Novotel Mangga Dua in North Jakarta on Saturday, 30 May 2026. Djarot then addressed Jokowi’s degree certificate, stating it should be presented without resorting to courtroom drama. “He must clarify and present the certificate to assure the public of its authenticity. Simply show the degree certificate. There’s no need for courtroom theatrics,” he added. Djarot said he would immediately show his own degree certificate if requested, suggesting Jokowi’s tour might be aimed at clarifying and presenting his genuine diploma. “If you ask about my degree, I’ll show it to you. That’s all. Perhaps the purpose of his tour is to present the genuine certificate to resolve the ongoing controversy. So, proceed,” he said. Djarot was unfazed by the prospect of Jokowi being appointed as PSI’s Honorary Chairman. “We’ve known this for a while. When registering with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), it was clear the honorary chair’s initials were ‘J’. There’s no need for such theatrics; the public is intelligent enough to see through this,” he added. It is known that Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will tour several regions in the near future. He stated the trip is to fulfill regional invitations. “I have many invitations from regions to attend events. I am healthy and will visit these invitations,” Jokowi said at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari. “It is also to provide motivation,” he added.
