The residence of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), at Jalan Kutai Utara No. 1 has been marked as the “Solo Wailing Wall” on Google Maps. Deputy Chairwoman of the PSI Advisory Board, Grace Natalie, regarded the naming by netizens as a creative gesture.

“Ha ha, this is the first I’ve heard of it. Our netizens are indeed creative,” Grace said when contacted on Wednesday (18 February 2025).

Grace noted that Jokowi’s home has always been bustling with visitors. Many wish to meet Jokowi, whether to take photographs or shake hands.

“Pak Jokowi’s house is never quiet — there are always members of the public wanting to meet him, to shake hands, take photos, and reconnect because he has now retired from office,” she said.

According to Grace, the phenomenon proves that Jokowi is loved by the public.

“This is real proof that he is truly loved by the people,” she said.

The “Solo Wailing Wall” label on Google Maps was placed at the location of Jokowi’s home in Solo, Central Java. Beyond Google Maps, the phenomenon has been amplified by a viral video of a young man performing as though he were wailing before the gates of the residence. The video was shared, among others, by the Instagram account @indopium.

“The Wailing Wall in Solo has become one of the most hyped spots for Gen Z youth,” the account wrote, as reported on Monday (16 February 2026).

Jokowi’s adjutant, Police Commissioner Syarif Fitriansyah, said he was already aware of the unusual designation on digital platforms. However, he could not confirm whether the president who served from 2014 to 2024 was yet aware of it.

“Yes, I already know. I’m not sure whether Pak Jokowi knows yet or not,” he said when contacted.

When asked about the possibility of requesting a name change on Google Maps, Syarif declined to comment further. He personally said he was not offended by the label.
