Jokowi's Code on Wearing PSI Attire and Cap
The 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has commenced his political safari in Lampung Province. During this agenda, Jokowi has frequently been seen wearing attributes of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), which is led by his son, Kaesang Pangarep.
Jokowi conducted his political visit to Lampung on Friday (26/06/2026) and is scheduled to remain in the province for three days.
Jokowi has addressed the speculation regarding his membership status in PSI. Wearing a PSI jacket after attending the PSI Bandar Lampung City Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda DPD), Jokowi signalled his position within the party.
When initially asked if the PSI-logoed jacket indicated his role as the Board of Trustees for PSI, Jokowi responded briefly in Bandar Lampung, saying, “If someone is already wearing the clothes, they know for themselves.”
During his stay in Lampung, Jokowi stated that he has been fulfilling various invitations from several parties. In addition to attending PSI political agendas, he has participated in community activities, met with MSME actors, and received traditional customary titles.
“Yes, in accordance with the invitations received, I have fulfilled several over the past two days. Both from PSI, the community, and volunteers,” he said.
Regarding the explanation from PSI concerning the status of Kaesang’s father within the party’s management structure, the party provided the following clarification.
Jokowi’s Position as a Mentor
PSI Secretary General Raja Juli Antoni stated that, as of now, Jokowi is not yet officially part of the party structure. Raja Juli described Jokowi’s role within the party as a mentor.
“For the time being, Mr Jokowi’s position in PSI is as a mentor and motivator, in addition to being the ‘ideological father’ of PSI,” Raja Juli told reporters on Sunday (2/28/2026).
Raja Juli subsequently requested public support for both Jokowi and PSI moving forward, asking for the public’s prayers.
“Just pray for the best. Please provide public support for Mr Jokowi and PSI,” he said.
It is noted that Jokowi previously discussed the internal mechanisms within PSI, following assessments that he would be included in the party’s management list.
“In PSI, there is a party mechanism that must be followed; it is not just about receiving a position immediately,” Jokowi said when met at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, on Friday (19/06/2026).
Jokowi stated that he appreciates every invitation received, whether from the community or PSI itself. He ensured that he would attend agendas during his travels across Indonesia.
“The most important thing is that the invitations I receive from the community and from PSI, I will attend them all,” he expressed.
Regarding news that he might serve on the PSI Board of Trustees, Jokowi provided a brief answer, stating his current role is more as an encourager.
“As what? As a motivator,” Jokowi said with a smile when asked about his position in PSI.
