Jokowi Urges Support for Prabowo-Gibran for Two Terms, Gerindra's Prasetyo Responds
Gerindra Party Deputy Chairman Prasetyo Hadi has responded to questions regarding former President Joko Widodo’s request for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to safeguard the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms. Prasetyo stated that the current focus is on working first.
‘Not yet, not yet. When we represent the government, representing the President, the important thing is to focus on working first,’ Prasetyo said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (26/6/2026).
Prasetyo noted there is still much work to be completed by the Prabowo-Gibran government. He highlighted issues concerning civil servants (ASN), teachers, and the management of industrialisation.
‘We have not yet thought about matters heading in that direction. There is still a lot of work we must finish. For instance, the issue of employment, there is still plenty,’ Prasetyo said.
‘Then the issue of our teachers, there is still much to organise, the ASN issue must be organised. The issues of industrialisation and downstreaming also still need to be resolved. Let us focus on that first,’ he continued.
The directive from Jokowi to support Prabowo-Gibran for two terms was conveyed by PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus. It is understood that Bestari met with Jokowi in Solo on Thursday (18/6).
‘To us, he conveyed that we are asked to support Mr Prabowo-Gibran, even for two terms. So there is no slander about there being two suns. How can there be two suns? That is nonsense,’ Bestari told reporters on Friday (18/6).
Bestari said Jokowi reminded them to maintain harmony and support the ongoing Prabowo-Gibran administration. ‘He continued, earlier I was also entrusted with a message to maintain internal harmony. And also to remind friends wherever they are to support the pair of Mr Prabowo-Gibran, what more suns are there,’ he said.
