The seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has reportedly instructed the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to support the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms. Responding to this, Democratic Party Secretary General Herman Khaeron stated that his party has not yet discussed the 2029 presidential election.

“We have not discussed [the 2029 presidential election], especially since the Election Law has also not been deliberated,” Herman told reporters on Sunday (21/6/2026). “I think it is Mr Jokowi’s right to convey that, but what is certain is that we have not discussed the presidential election and are focused on assisting President Prabowo’s administration,” he added.

According to Herman, the Democratic Party is currently concentrating on ensuring the success of the Prabowo administration’s programmes, including the major Asta Cita agenda. “We are still focused on making President Prabowo’s main programmes and Asta Cita successful, so they achieve results and can be felt by the public,” he said.

He noted that global conditions and dynamics are currently fraught with uncertainty. Therefore, he believes the main priority at this time is to support the government’s programme. “With the current global uncertainty and dynamics, it is very important to pay special attention to national economic development, so that it grows and benefits the people,” he stated. “We are also still conducting internal consolidation, regional and branch meetings for the Democratic Party throughout Indonesia, so we have not discussed the future presidential election,” he added.

Previously, PSI DPP Chair Bestari Barus said that the seventh President of Indonesia, Jokowi, had asked his party and sympathisers to support the Prabowo-Gibran administration. Bestari dismissed the notion of a dual leadership, following Jokowi’s plan to travel around Indonesia. “He told us that we were asked to support Mr Prabowo and Gibran, even for two terms. So there is no slander about there being two suns. How can there be two suns? That’s nonsense,” Bestari told reporters on Friday (18/6). Bestari revealed the message after meeting with Kaesang Pangarep’s father in Solo on Thursday morning. He said Jokowi reminded them to maintain internal harmony and support the current Prabowo-Gibran administration.
