Jokowi Urges PSI to Back Prabowo-Gibran for Two Terms, Palace Responds

The Presidential Palace, through State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, has responded to reports that the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), directed the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to support President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms. Prasetyo stressed that the government has not yet considered such support. He said President Prabowo is currently focused on working for the people. “Not yet, if we are representing the government, representing the President, the important thing is to focus on working first, we are not thinking about things like that yet,” Prasetyo Hadi told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 26 June 2026. The government, he said, is still dealing with several issues in the country, such as employment, the fate of teachers, and industrialisation. “There is still a lot of work that we must complete. For example, there are still many employment issues, then the issues of our teacher colleagues also still need a lot of organising, civil servant issues need organising, industrialisation and downstreaming issues also still need a lot of work to be resolved,” he said. Previously, PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus revealed Jokowi’s directive to his party and PSI sympathisers. The directive was to safeguard the Prabowo-Gibran administration. According to him, Jokowi also asked PSI to guard Prabowo-Gibran for two terms. “To us, he conveyed that we were asked to safeguard Mr Prabowo-Gibran, even, even for two terms. So there is no slander about there being two suns. How can there be two suns? It’s nonsense,” Bestari told reporters on Friday, 18 June 2026. Bestari disclosed the message from a meeting with the father of PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep in Solo on Thursday, 17 June 2026. Bestari said Jokowi reminded them to maintain harmony and support the ongoing Prabowo-Gibran administration. “He continued, earlier I was also entrusted with a message to maintain internal harmony. And also remind friends everywhere to support the Prabowo-Gibran pair, whatever sun there may be,” he said.
