Jokowi Urges PSI to Aim Beyond Parliament, Target Bigger Wins in 2029

Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged cadres of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) not only to build the party’s organisational structure but also to ensure the party machinery is truly working down to the village level ahead of the 2029 General Election. He stated that a party’s strength is determined by the activity of its cadres at the grassroots, not merely the completeness of its leadership boards. Jokowi made these remarks while attending the PSI Regional Coordination Meeting in Bandar Lampung on Saturday, 27 June 2026.

During the event, Jokowi praised the consolidation achievements of PSI in Lampung, noting that the establishment of party branches down to the neighbourhood and village level had reached over 90 percent. “Why did I come to Lampung? One of the reasons is this. In Lampung Province, the structure down to the branch level is already above 90 percent. This will become a big machine, a strong party machine,” Jokowi said.

He cautioned, however, that the existing organisational structure must not become a mere formality. He urged all cadres to be active in the community and involved in various social activities. Jokowi asked PSI cadres at the sub-district and branch levels to build closeness with the public, from paying respects when a resident passes away, attending wedding receptions, and participating in religious activities such as tahlilan and yasinan, to helping solve residents’ problems in their respective neighbourhoods.

Jokowi also requested that all cadres introduce PSI to the public, including to religious leaders, traditional leaders, and community figures. He noted that the level of public recognition of PSI still needs to be improved. “Therefore, introduce to the public, to the leaders, that PSI’s logo is a rose,” he said.

In his directives, Jokowi emphasised that PSI’s political target for the 2029 Election should not stop at merely qualifying for the House of Representatives (DPR RI). He is optimistic that this opportunity can be achieved if the entire party machinery works optimally down to the lowest level. “If the target is only to enter Senayan, I am sure we will get in. But the target we are aiming for is a big target. Therefore, the machine must also be a big and strong machine,” he stated.

Jokowi concluded his address by calling on all cadres to work harder to activate the party structure down to the village level. He believes that strong consolidation and closeness with the community will be important capital for PSI in facing the 2029 Election.
