Jokowi Tours Indonesia to Boost PSI, Secure Gibran's VP Position, Analyst Says
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Adi Prayitno, a social and political science lecturer at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, believes President Joko Widodo’s return to the field is aimed at securing votes for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s position as vice-president.
“I lean towards the consolidation of President Jokowi’s political forces to associate with PSI and Gibran Rakabuming Raka,” Adi said during a Satu Meja The Forum Kompas TV event on Wednesday, 28 May 2026.
Adi stated that Jokowi is now closely linked with PSI, especially since its chairman is his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep.
According to Adi, Jokowi hopes the field visits directed towards PSI and Gibran will have a positive effect.
“President Jokowi consistently states that Prabowo-Gibran will serve two terms until 2034. Indeed, in this context, Jokowi’s spin is quite convincing,” he added.
Previously reported, Jokowi has stated he is now healthy and ready to accept invitations from communities across various regions.
This was communicated when Jokowi responded to journalists’ questions about his planned tour with PSI and Projo at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, Central Java, on Monday, 24 May 2026.
PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus said Jokowi will soon visit several areas, including Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Java.
“His visits to Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Java have been confirmed. Soon,” Bestari said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
According to Bestari, Jokowi’s visits aim to fulfil public invitations and meet PSI officials in the regions.
