Jokowi to Visit Palue Island, NTT, Planning to Spend Night with Earthquake Refugees

The 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, is set to visit the communities affected by the Flores earthquake in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

He will cross to Palue Island to personally observe the condition of residents still impacted by the earthquake. Jokowi is also expected to meet with the community at the evacuation post in Rokirole Village, Palue District. At the location, he will symbolically distribute aid to the refugees.

Furthermore, the former Governor of Jakarta plans to spend the night with the residents who are still displaced in Palue. The Regent of Sikka, Juventus Prima Yoris Kago, confirmed the planned visit.

Jokowi’s delegation is scheduled to arrive at Frans Seda Maumere Airport at approximately 13:00 WITA. From the airport, Jokowi and his entourage will continue their journey by land to Ropa Port, Maurole District, Ende Regency. The journey will then proceed by boat to Palue Island, Sikka Regency.

“Arrival is scheduled for this afternoon; the journey will be via land to Maumere and from Ropa Port by ship to Palue,” said Juventus, as quoted on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

While in Palue, Jokowi is scheduled to inspect several earthquake-affected locations, including the Lei Parish Church in Tuanggeo Village, which sustained damage due to the earthquake.

According to Juventus, the visit provides an opportunity for Jokowi to see the community’s condition firsthand and listen to their needs following the disaster.

“Mr Jokowi wishes to see the lives of the people more closely after the earthquake, while directly listening to the needs of the residents still affected by the disaster,” he said.

During the visit, Jokowi will be accompanied by the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Kaesang Pangarep, along with several party officials.

In addition to inspecting the condition of the refugees, Jokowi will also personally observe the earthquake’s impact on public facilities, including the Lei Parish Church building in Tuanggeo Village.

This visit follows the Flores earthquake that struck the NTT region in August 2026, impacting numerous residents and facilities throughout the area.
