Jokowi to PSI Cadres: Having a Party Structure is Useless if it is Merely a Formality

Kupang, VIVA – The 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has reminded members of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) not to merely build an organisation on paper if they wish to achieve maximum results in the 2029 General Election. According to him, a party’s strength is determined by a structure that is truly alive and working within society. This message was delivered by Jokowi while attending the PSI Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda) for Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday, 1 August 2026.

Addressing the cadres, Jokowi emphasised the importance of strengthening the party structure down to the village and Polling Station (TPS) levels. He stated that such a step serves as the primary foundation for PSI to face upcoming political contests. “That is why the Central Executive Board (DPP) is striving to ensure the party structure reaches the villages and polling stations, because the key lies there. We must remember together that the party structure must be functional, truly operational, alive, and working,” said Jokowi.

Jokawi assessed that party management should not be formed merely to meet administrative requirements. He argued that the organisational structure must be capable of performing real political functions and being present in the lives of the community. Consequently, he requested all PSI officials to change the organisation’s way of working to be more active and oriented towards public service.

“It is useless to have it if it is only a formality. It is useless to have a structure if it is only to obtain a Decree (SK). It must be a functional structure, a living and working structure, an active structure in the daily lives of our people,” he remarked.

According to Jokowi, the presence of cadres down to the lowest level will be a determining factor for PSI’s strength in facing the 2029 General Election. “Building the party structure is the key to our victory in 2029. The key is building the party structure down to the villages, down to the polling stations. The key lies there,” he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi reminded PSI cadres not to appear only during political momentum. He requested all cadres to build closeness with the community through daily activities and to be present in various situations faced by citizens. By doing so, Jokowi believes that public trust in the party will grow naturally and become vital capital for facing the 2029 General Election.
