Jokowi to Present Original Diploma at Trial, PSI: To Make Matters Even Clearer

Jokowi’s legal representative, Yakup Hasibuan, stated that Jokowi will attend the trial and show his original diploma during the proceedings. The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) supports Jokowi’s step to make the matter even clearer. This was conveyed by PSI’s Deputy Chairman Bestari Barus. She initially noted that good citizens must respect legal processes. “So, all members of society in this nation, good citizens certainly respect legal processes, meaning that Mr Jokowi has already stated and it has become his stance ‘if requested by the court, I will show my diploma’, that’s how it is,” said Bestari when contacted on Saturday (25/4/2026). Bestari also urged that Jokowi be escorted if he attends court to show his diploma. She assured that PSI is ready to contribute to the escort. “Now we just wait and see, I entrust, we entrust, PSI entrusts Mr Jokowi as our patron to the legal team to escort the ongoing legal processes until there is a final decision from the court. If PSI is needed to contribute, we urge the legal team and Mr Jokowi not to hesitate to seek accompaniment from us or from PSI’s legal team,” she said. Bestari left the mechanism for presenting Jokowi’s original diploma to the court. She also left any decision after seeing Jokowi’s original diploma to the court. “Regarding the mechanism for showing it, it’s not Mr Jokowi who is in charge, but the court. So we will certainly leave it and the legal team will certainly leave the best mechanism for showing it if indeed needed by the court to be shown,” she stated. Furthermore, Bestari mentioned that the nation’s energy has already been exhausted on arguing about the diploma issue. However, according to her, the legal process must still be followed to make the matter clear. “Well, our energy has been largely spent, but that doesn’t mean because the energy is spent it becomes an excuse for ongoing legal processes. Just let it run, and in the end the court will give the final decision. We’ll just wait. And after that, whatever happens, we’ll face it again. I think that’s to make it even clearer, right,” she said. Previously, the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), met with his legal team at his residence in Sumber Ward, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Solo City. They discussed the alleged defamation case stemming from the diploma forgery polemic reported by Jokowi to the Metro Jaya Police. Jokowi’s legal representative, Yakup Hasibuan, said that in the meeting, they also provided the latest updates on the case. “This morning we paid a visit to Mr Jokowi, while also giving a bit of an update on the developments of the case at Metro Jaya Police. Because we are confident this matter will soon be tried, so we discussed quite a bit about the follow-up, how long the process will take, and so on,” said Yakup to the media on Saturday (25/4). His side does not yet know when the trial will be held. His side leaves it to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court regarding the trial schedule. However, he is confident the trial will not be long, as the case file is already complete. “We are still waiting for the schedule, of course that’s the authority of the Prosecutor’s Office. If it has entered the Court, there will be technical determination of the trial schedule and so on. Usually our confidence, because the file is complete, it should not be long, hopefully within 1-2 months,” he explained. Yakup confirmed that Jokowi will attend that trial. He has confirmed this directly with Jokowi. In fact, Jokowi will show his original diploma in that trial. “We reconfirmed with Mr Jokowi, Sir, your attendance at the trial will be like what. He emphasised that he will attend the trial and show his diploma,” he said.
