Jokowi to Don PSI Jacket, Signalling Departure from PDIP
The Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Central Board, Bestari Barus, has stated that the party will soon bestow a PSI jacket upon the 7th President of Indonesia, Jokowi, as a formal sign of his position as Chairman of the Advisory Board. Bestari said the jacket ceremony also signifies that Jokowi is no longer with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). Bestari mentioned that the jacket presentation will be carried out by PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep, though the exact timing remains unconfirmed. “It could happen before the regional tours, or it could flow naturally. The most important thing is that it becomes a public declaration that Pak Jokowi’s commitment is not just words,” Bestari told reporters on Saturday (13/6/2026). “Later, after the jacket is bestowed and officially announced by the Chairman, it will serve as the broadest public declaration that Pak Jokowi is now with PSI and no longer with PDIP,” he continued. He noted that the plan for Jokowi to serve as Chairman of the PSI Advisory Board had previously been conveyed by Kaesang during several visits, including to South Sumatra and Lampung. “The jacket itself is symbolic. The jacket ceremony is symbolic and will naturally adjust to the time and place where the Chairman will symbolically bestow it, marking the effective start of Pak Jokowi’s role as Chairman of the Advisory Board,” he stated. Bestari expressed hope that after the jacket ceremony, Jokowi’s political status would become clearer to the public. He reiterated that Jokowi is no longer with PDIP. “I think it could coincide with his introduction during regional visits, serving as the first major signal that Pak Jokowi is with us on the PSI board,” he said. “Our hope is that this becomes a broad public declaration of his political position, so there is no more doubt or confusion among the public about which party Pak Jokowi now belongs to.” Previously, PSI Deputy Chair of the Advisory Board, Grace Natalie, stated that the 7th President, Joko Widodo, would soon officially wear the PSI jacket as Chairman of the Advisory Board. Grace urged all PSI Regional Boards across Indonesia to promptly complete their structures. She explained that a special coordination meeting was held to ensure the completeness of PSI’s organisational structure across all regions, including East Nusa Tenggara. Once this process is complete, Jokowi will conduct visits to various regions wearing official PSI attire. “So PSI nationally, in all provincial boards, must complete the structure down to the village and sub-district level. This is not only in NTT but is happening simultaneously in other regions because next year we enter verification, and we want to finalise it so that the Advisory Board Chairman can formally wear the PSI jacket and greet the public,” Grace explained during a visit to Kupang, as reported by detikBali on Saturday (13/6/2026).
