Jokowi to Attend Roy Suryo Trial Next Week
Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo, is expected to attend the trial of Raden Mas Tumenggung Roy Suryo Notodiprojo, known as Roy Suryo, who is charged with alleged defamation and slander related to Jokowi’s university diploma.
“God willing, he will definitely attend,” Jokowi’s aide, AKBP Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah, said when contacted on Wednesday (28 October).
Prosecutors had previously told the court that they would call Jokowi as a witness in the case against Suryo. They will also summon Jokowi’s aide, Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah.
“May we have permission, Your Honour. We will summon witnesses named Ir H Joko Widodo and Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah,” a prosecutor told the East Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (28 October).
Prosecutors plan to call Jokowi and Syarif at the hearing next Thursday (5 November). A hearing involving defendant Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, is also scheduled for that day.
“We request that the cases be heard on the same day as Tifa’s. We therefore ask for an adjournment until Thursday, 5 November 2026, in view of the proceedings, Your Honour,” the prosecutor said.
Suryo is accused of defaming Jokowi. Prosecutors allege that he spread false information about Jokowi’s university diploma.
Suryo is charged under Article 433(1), in conjunction with Article 441(1), of Law No. 1/2023 on the Criminal Code. Alternatively, he is charged under Article 35, in conjunction with Article 51(1), and Article 32, in conjunction with Article 48(1), of Law No. 11/2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions, as amended by Law No. 1/2026 on Criminal Sentencing Adjustments.
