Jokowi to Attend Court Session in Diploma Defamation Case on 6 August

Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is confirmed to attend the trial of Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Dokter Tifa, who is facing charges of defamation related to allegations about his academic diploma. Jokowi is expected to appear as a witness during the sixth session of the trial on 6 August. Andi Azwan, Chairman of the MGN Volunteers, stated after visiting Jokowi’s residence that the former president’s presence would be a historic moment for the Indonesian legal system, as he will be the first former president to face a trial after leaving office. Azwan noted that previous presidents, such as Soeharto, were unable to attend court due to old age, while B.J. Habibie was abroad in Germany during the Buloggate case. He emphasised that Jokowi’s attendance demonstrates the principle of equality before the law, showing that even a former head of state is subject to the same legal processes as ordinary citizens.
