Jokowi Says His Role in PSI Is as a Motivator

Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has responded to reports that he will soon officially don the jacket of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and serve as Chairman of the Advisory Board. Jokowi alluded to the party’s internal mechanisms and his future role in PSI. “In PSI, there is a party mechanism that must be followed, it’s not just about wearing the jacket,” Jokowi said when met at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, on Friday (19/6/2026). Jokowi stated that he appreciates every invitation he receives, whether from the public or PSI itself. He confirmed he will attend events as he travels around Indonesia. “Most importantly, I will attend all the invitations I receive from the community and from PSI,” he said. Regarding reports that he will serve as Chairman of the PSI Advisory Board, Jokowi gave a brief answer. He mentioned that his current role is more as a morale booster. “As what? As a motivator,” Jokowi said with a smile when asked about his position in PSI. Although he has not spoken explicitly about a structural position, Jokowi affirmed his commitment to securing victory for PSI. He stated he is ready to fully dedicate himself to the party now led by his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep.
