Jokowi Reveals the Meaning of Eid al-Fitr 2026: Patience

Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) performed Eid al-Fitr prayers at Al Bina Mosque in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex, Central Jakarta, on 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah, or Saturday, 21 March 2026. Jokowi conducted the Eid prayers with his wife, Iriana Jokowi, and the Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party, Kaesang Pangarep.

When asked about the meaning of this year’s Eid al-Fitr, Jokowi gave a brief response. “Patience, that’s it,” he said to journalists at the location.

Previously, Jokowi’s plans to celebrate Lebaran in Jakarta had been confirmed by his aide, Commissioner General Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah. “Mr and Mrs (Jokowi and Iriana) will perform prayers at GBK on Saturday, 21 March,” said Syarif on Friday, 20 March 2026.

However, Syarif could not yet confirm whether the father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka would meet President Prabowo Subianto during the halal bihalal agenda.

Jokowi and Iriana departed from Solo to Jakarta on Thursday, 19 March 2026. The pair are scheduled to remain in Jakarta until 24 March 2026.

The moment of departure was also shared via Jokowi’s Instagram account on Friday, 20 March 2026. He expressed that he would use the Lebaran moment to gather with family, especially his grandchildren. “To gather with family, to reconnect, especially with the grandchildren who always bring cheerfulness and new stories,” wrote Jokowi.

Last year’s Lebaran, Indonesia’s 7th President celebrated Eid al-Fitr in Solo, Central Java. Together with Iriana, he performed Eid al-Fitr prayers at a mosque near his residence in Sumber ward.

Several figures were seen visiting Jokowi’s home at that time, such as Prabowo’s son, Didit Hediprasetyo Djojohadikusumo or Didit Prabowo; Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia; and Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan.
