Jokowi Reveals Role in PSI: Becoming a Motivator

Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has spoken out regarding rumours that he will soon join the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and serve as Chairman of the Advisory Board. Jokowi stated that there are internal processes within PSI that must be completed before he joins the party led by his son, Kaesang Pangarep. “At PSI, there is a party mechanism that must be followed, it’s not just about putting on a jacket,” Jokowi said when met at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, on Friday (19/6).

Regarding his position in PSI, Jokowi was brief. He mentioned that his current role is more as a morale booster. “As what? As a motivator,” Jokowi said with a smile when asked about his position in PSI. Although he has not officially joined PSI, Jokowi confirmed he is ready to make maximum efforts to secure victory for the party. “As I said at the Congress and the National Working Meeting, I will work tirelessly for PSI,” Jokowi stated.

Meanwhile, PSI’s Daily Chairperson, Ahmad Ali, also confirmed that Jokowi will join PSI. “I can confirm that, he will join PSI. What his position will be is not my concern,” said Ahmad Ali in the What the Fact Politics podcast on CNN Indonesia, Friday (19/6). Ahmad Ali conveyed that PSI’s internal team is currently focused on building a solid party structure. He said he is one of the people tasked with strengthening PSI’s structure. Additionally, Ali mentioned Jokowi’s intention to travel around Indonesia. Ali expressed bewilderment at those questioning Jokowi’s move, arguing it is perfectly normal, especially for a two-term president. “The real question is, what makes people anxious when Jokowi wants to go on impromptu visits, attend events, or visit a region? He is an Indonesian citizen, he has a passport, he is an Indonesian citizen, we don’t need to worry, especially since he is a former President. So why the big fuss?” Ali remarked.
