Jokowi Reveals PSI's Targets for the 2029 General Election
The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has asserted that the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) is pursuing ambitious targets for the upcoming 2029 General Election, aiming for much more than just surpassing the parliamentary threshold to enter the Senayan parliament.
These remarks were made by Jokowi while providing guidance during the Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda) of the PSI Regional Leadership Council (DPD) in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday (1/8/2026). Although he was not prepared to disclose the specific secret targets, Jokowi expressed optimism based on political calculations and the high level of enthusiasm among cadres in various regions.
“Our target is not just to enter Senayan. There is a larger target we wish to achieve, but there is no need to disclose it here,” Jokowi stated before thousands of PSI cadres in Kupang.
Jokowi noted that the solid presence of cadres in regional coordination meetings in Kupang and other areas, such as Lampung, serves as a strong indicator of the potential growth for the ‘Elephant Party’. To achieve the 2029 election goals, he set a focus on establishing party infrastructure down to the frontline of rural villages, alongside strengthening the acquisition of seats in provincial and regency/city legislatures (DPRD).
“What I am targeting is the formation of structures from the DPRD down to the village administration; this is the great strength of the Elephant Party,” Jokowi emphasised.
