President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the seventh president of the Republic of Indonesia, has revealed the contents of a meeting held a short time ago between President Prabowo Subianto and former presidents and vice presidents, former foreign ministers, and party chairmen. Jokowi said Prabowo explained two major points: Indonesia’s entry into the Board of Peace (BoP) and the Indonesia–United States trade tariffs.

‘The two big things were discussed,’ Jokowi said, as quoted by detikJateng on Friday (6 March 2026). ‘Firstly, regarding BoP, he noted the need for us to be in that forum to build a dialogue that fosters a more peaceful world.’

‘Secondly, on trade tariffs, he explained that tariffs that are zero are actually the majority, with about 1,800 commodity items granted zero-percent tariff. This is something the public doesn’t know much about,’ he said.

‘Furthermore, the tariffs are important for us so that our exports to the United States can increase, because we already have a surplus with the United States, as far as I recall around USD 18 billion. I think that is a very large figure that we can further increase the surplus,’ he added.
