Jokowi Responds to Prosecutors' Decision Not to Detain Roy Suryo and Tifa

Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has spoken out after the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office released Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Doctor Tifa, in a case involving allegations of a fake diploma belonging to Jokowi. Jokowi did not answer when asked if he was disappointed with the prosecutor’s decision. He merely stated that his party respects the decision not to detain Roy Suryo and Tifa. “That is the full authority of the Prosecutor’s Office. We must respect that,” Jokowi said at his residence in Sumber, Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday (23/6). Jokowi claimed that his party has followed all procedures in accordance with applicable regulations. “The most important thing is that we follow the existing legal process until the trial,” he said. Previously, the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Tifa in the case related to the fake diploma allegations. This decision was made after the prosecutor’s office received the phase two handover of evidence and suspects from the Metro Jaya Police investigators. “In accordance with the applicable mechanisms and provisions, the suspects were not detained,” said Head of the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office Marcelo Bellah at the prosecutor’s office building in South Jakarta on Monday (22/6). He stated that in the request, the family as guarantors were prepared to accept the risk if Roy and Tifa failed to appear at trial. “As well as a written statement from the suspects that they will always be cooperative in fulfilling all applicable obligations and rules and will not repeat the actions, maintaining a conducive situation, therefore in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and provisions, the suspects were not detained,” he said.
