Jokowi Responds to His Home Going Viral as Solo's Wailing Wall
President of the Republic of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has responded to his home going viral as the ‘Tembok Ratapan Solo’ in the Roblox game app and on Maps.
Jokowi’s response was recounted by his aide, AKBP Syarif Fitriansyah, to the media in Solo, Central Java, on Wednesday (8/4).
Syarif claimed that Jokowi was already aware of his private residence becoming viral as one of the Roblox game attractions titled ‘Tembok Ratapan Solo’, and previously, the location of his home in Sumber Village, Banjarsari Sub-district, had been marked with the same label.
According to the mid-ranking police officer, Jokowi took it lightly.
“He views it casually; it’s part of the creativity of young people in the current digital era, including in Roblox,” said Syarif, quoted from detikJateng.
“The gentleman also does not feel disturbed. As long as it’s positive, no hoaxes, no negative elements, we take it as normal. In fact, this shows that society, especially the younger generation, has their own way of expressing themselves,” he added.
Nevertheless, they requested that ethics be maintained and that untrue information not be spread. According to him, Jokowi appreciates the creativity.
“The important thing is to maintain ethics, don’t let there be untrue information or anything that causes a stir. Otherwise, the gentleman is relaxed and appreciates such creativity,” he said.
Previously, screenshots from Roblox went viral on social media showing a replica of Jokowi’s house visited by players of the popular game. Avatars in the game were seen posing as if wailing at the wall.
Some time ago, Jokowi’s residence on Jalan Kutai Utara also went viral after being marked with the name ‘Tembok Ratapan Solo’ on Google Maps. The marker appeared right above the location of Jokowi’s house.
In addition to Google Maps, the phenomenon was reinforced by a video circulating of a young man acting as if wailing in front of the gate of the residence.
Since stepping down from the presidency in 2024, Jokowi has returned to reside in his private home in Solo. Since then, the house has never been free from queues of residents wanting to meet him. Even at his private residence, Jokowi still receives guests from friendly countries and state officials, one of whom is President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
