Jokowi Responds to Arrests of Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa on Friday Morning
Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has responded to the arrests of Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Doctor Tifa, by investigators from the Metro Jaya Regional Police on Friday morning. Both were named as suspects several months ago in an alleged defamation case concerning Jokowi’s diploma. Jokowi offered little comment on the latest developments in the case he reported a year ago, stating that he is ready to follow the ongoing legal process. “We will follow the existing legal process until it reaches the court hearing. Because it is the court that will decide later,” Jokowi said when met at his residence in Sumber on Friday afternoon. On various occasions, the father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has stated he is prepared to attend the trial in person if requested by the judge. Jokowi firmly said he remains committed to fulfilling that promise. “Yes, I will attend. I will attend as I have already stated,” he said. Furthermore, Jokowi said his diploma is currently still in police custody as evidence in the case. “Yes. Still at the Metro Jaya Police,” he said. Previously, suspects in the Jokowi fake diploma allegation case, Doctor Tifa and Roy Suryo, were reportedly arrested by police on Friday morning. This news was confirmed to CNNIndonesia.com by one of Roy Suryo’s legal team, Petrus Selestinus. “Today, Friday 19 June 2026, at approximately 07.00, our client Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was informed by his wife that he had been arrested by Metro Jaya Police investigators. At the same time, we also received information that Tifauzia Tyassuma was also arrested,” said Petrus. Doctor Tifa was arrested by police at her apartment on Friday morning around 06.47 WIB.
