Jokowi Reportedly to Visit Papua, Says Kaesang
Jayapura, VIVA – Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Kaesang Pangarep, attended the Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorwil) as well as the inauguration of the executives of the Provincial and District Boards of PSI across Papua on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
During the event, Kaesang disclosed his plans to bring Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to Papua. In front of the cadres, Kaesang admitted to having a special emotional closeness every time he visits the Land of Papua.
He even described the militant spirit of the cadres in the region as very palpable.
“I always feel happy, I don’t know why, but I’m always happy when coming to Papua. Yesterday to Manokwari, Sorong, today to Jayapura. It feels different when shaking hands with all the cadres here. The militancy is incredible, all my friends here,” said Kaesang.
The youngest son of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia also touched on his party’s optimism in facing upcoming political contests. He believes that PSI’s victory in 2029 is not something difficult to achieve.
“So I think victory in 2029 is not a difficult thing for us,” Kaesang stated.
In the forum, Kaesang also recounted his latest communication with Jokowi after arriving in Papua. He mentioned that many cadres are awaiting the presence of the former head of state.
“I told him that I’ve just arrived in Manokwari here and everyone’s already asking for you. Then he said to me, well then, when should he come there. I said, we’ll just wait for coordination from our chairman,” he said.
Kaesang also acknowledged feeling a new energy within the party that he now leads.
“I really don’t know what to say, but the strength of PSI is only felt now,” he added.
This inauguration of the executives of the Provincial and District Boards of PSI across Papua is part of the party’s internal consolidation efforts. These steps are taken to strengthen the organisational structure while expanding the support base, particularly in eastern Indonesia.
