Jokowi Receives Naga Liman Sword, a Traditional Weapon of the Cirebon Sultanate, from Gus Ujang
Cirebon, VIVA – The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), received a unique souvenir while attending a family thanksgiving event for KH Muhammad Busthomi, also known as Gus Ujang Busthomi, in Sinarrancang Village, Mundu District, Cirebon Regency, West Java, on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
Jokowi received the gift in the form of the Naga Liman sword, a traditional weapon closely linked to the history and culture of the Cirebon Sultanate. Upon arriving at the Al-Bhustomi Foundation, the Anti-Galau Padepokan owned by Gus Ujang Busthomi, Jokowi was directed to a special guest room.
In that location, Gus Ujang presented the Naga Liman sword as a memento for Jokowi.
“I am pleased because of the carvings,” said Jokowi upon receiving the gift.
The Naga Liman sword is known for its intricate carvings of the mythological creatures Naga and Liman, representing elements of the Dragon and Elephant/Buraq/Paksi. This traditional object is deeply connected to the history and culture of the Cirebon Sultanate.
Naga Liman also carries symbolic meaning, representing steadfastness in upholding trust, as well as the teaching to be a person who is sincere in doing good and providing benefits to others.
In a gesture of reciprocity, Jokowi responded to the presentation of the souvenir by giving a bicycle to one of Gus Ujang Busthomi’s children, which was part of the family thanksgiving festivities.
During the visit, Jokowi was accompanied by his youngest son and Chairman of the PSI DPP, Kaesang Pangarep, as well as the DPP Chairman for Political Affairs, Bestari Barus.
The event attended by Jokowi was a thanksgiving ceremony for the circumcision of Muhammad Aulian Ghayda Fattana, the seventh child of Gus Ujang Busthomi. The circumcision ceremony itself had taken place in August 2026.
