Jokowi Ready to Present School and University Diplomas at Roy Suryo-Dr Tifa Trial

Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has affirmed his readiness to attend a defamation trial involving Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as dr Tifa, who are accused of spreading false claims about the authenticity of his university diploma. Jokowi stated he is prepared to appear if summoned directly by the panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court. “We must respect the existing legal process and mechanisms. If I am invited by the honourable panel of judges to attend the trial, I will attend,” Jokowi told reporters on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. He added that he would bring and present his diplomas from primary school, junior high school, senior high school, and his undergraduate degree. The public prosecutor previously indicted dr Tifa for defamation and slander related to her statements questioning the validity of Jokowi’s degree. During the initial hearing, the prosecutor explained that in March 2025, a witness named Syarif Muhammad showed Jokowi three social media posts attacking his honour and alleging his undergraduate diploma was fake, one of which was posted by dr Tifa. Following this, Jokowi instructed Syarif to collect the offending social media posts. On 14 April, Jokowi’s legal team held a press conference stating that the accusations were completely false and misleading, confirming that Jokowi’s degree is genuine and has been verified by Gadjah Mada University and the relevant authorities.
