Jokowi Ready to Present Original Diploma in Trial Against Doctor Tifa

Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated he is ready to appear in court and present his original diploma in the defamation case against Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Doctor Tifa. The statement was conveyed by Jokowi’s legal counsel, Yakup Hasibuan, after attending the first hearing at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday, 2 July 2026. “As of yesterday, we also met directly with Mr Jokowi and he stated he is ready to attend,” Yakup told reporters. “It is an honour for him to be able to show his diploma in this highly respected and valid forum,” he continued. Yakup explained that Jokowi has consistently been attacked with numerous narratives from irresponsible parties. Therefore, the trial will be the appropriate forum for Jokowi to present his original diploma. “And now we have the opportunity to present his diploma in this honourable forum, and Mr Jokowi greatly respects that and is very much looking forward to that time,” he stated. Previously, the Public Prosecutor indicted Doctor Tifa for criminal defamation and slander related to her statements about the authenticity of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia’s diploma. The prosecutor explained that in March 2025, a witness named Syarif Muhammad showed Jokowi three posts on social media X that attacked his honour and good name, essentially accusing his undergraduate diploma of being fake. One of the three posts was an upload by Doctor Tifa. After seeing the three posts, Jokowi asked Syarif to collect social media posts attacking his honour and accusing his diploma of being fake. “While collecting these posts, on 14 April, the Legal Team of witness Jokowi held a press conference essentially stating that the accusations regarding witness Jokowi’s undergraduate diploma were untrue and highly misleading. Witness Jokowi’s undergraduate diploma exists, is genuine, and has been clearly confirmed by Gadjah Mada University and the relevant authorities. The Legal Team also reminded the public not to spread accusations and false news claiming that witness Jokowi’s undergraduate diploma is fake,” the prosecutor said.
