Jokowi Ready to Become a Motivator for PSI
Former President Joko Widodo has responded to statements from Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) elites who suggested he would soon don the party’s jacket bearing its elephant logo. PSI plans to introduce Jokowi as the chairman of their advisory board. Jokowi stated that the process of joining a political party cannot be done instantly. According to him, this is because one must follow the applicable internal mechanisms. “At PSI, there is a party mechanism that must be followed, not just a jacket ceremony,” Jokowi told reporters during an impromptu interview after performing Friday prayers in Solo on Friday, 19 June 2026. Nevertheless, Jokowi confirmed he will attend various invitations he receives, including from PSI. He emphasised his commitment to remain involved in a number of the party’s activities. “The most important thing is that the invitations I receive from the public, from PSI, I will attend all of them later,” he said. When asked about his capacity when attending PSI agendas, whether as an advisory board member or in a specific position within the party structure, Jokowi did not give a firm answer. He only mentioned that he would attend as a motivator. “As what… as a motivator,” he said. Jokowi also reaffirmed his support for PSI. According to him, this commitment has been conveyed in several of the party’s previous forums. “Yes, as I have already said at the congress, at the national working meeting, I will work tirelessly for PSI,” he stated. Bestari Barus, Head of Politics at the PSI Central Executive Board, when met at Jokowi’s residence on Thursday, 18 June 2026, said he had just met the former Governor of DKI Jakarta in Solo and received a number of directions regarding the national political situation and PSI’s preparations for upcoming political agendas. Bestari mentioned that one of the directions he received was a request to accompany Jokowi on a visit to Lampung Province at the end of June 2026.
