Jokowi Proposes Two Terms for Prabowo-Gibran, State Secretary Urges Focus on Current Work

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has stated the government is not yet considering the scenario of extending the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The Presidential Spokesperson was responding to a proposal by former president Joko Widodo, who encouraged a second term for the duo that includes his eldest son. “On behalf of the government and the President, the most important thing is to focus on working first. We are not thinking about other matters like that yet,” Prasetyo said after attending a meeting of the Task Force for Mitigation of Layoffs at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Thursday, 26 June 2026. According to the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, the government still has a lot of work to complete, including employment issues, the management of the state civil apparatus, and industrial downstreaming. “There are also many issues concerning our labour friends that still need to be organised. We are focusing on that first,” Prasetyo added. Jokowi’s directive for the Prabowo-Gibran administration to continue into a second term (2029-2034) was revealed by the Chairperson of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Bestari Barus. Bestari stated that Jokowi asked PSI and its sympathisers to safeguard the Prabowo-Gibran government. Bestari disclosed this message after meeting Jokowi in Solo, Central Java, on Thursday, 19 June 2026. The former NasDem politician said Jokowi reminded them to maintain harmony and support the current Prabowo-Gibran administration. “To us, he conveyed that we are asked to safeguard Mr Prabowo and Gibran, even for two terms,” Bestari told reporters on Friday, 19 June 2026. Jokowi has voiced support for the continuity of the Prabowo-Gibran government on several occasions. Most recently, he floated the idea when met by journalists at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, on 30 January 2026. At that time, Jokowi was asked to respond to a statement by PSI Daily Chair Ahmad Ali, who mentioned that Gibran could be a strong competitor in the 2029 presidential contest. “I have already said, Prabowo-Gibran for two terms. That’s it,” Jokowi stated. Jokowi also previously instructed the Barisan Relawan Jokowi Presiden (Bara JP) volunteer group to support the Prabowo-Gibran administration for two terms. “From the beginning, I have told all volunteers to support Prabowo-Gibran leading for two terms,” Jokowi said on 19 September 2025.
