Jokowi Pays Tribute to Ryamizard as a Humble and Firm Minister

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), the 7th President, mourns the passing of former Defence Minister General (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu. Jokowi expressed deep condolences over the former defence minister’s passing during his administration.

‘We extend our condolences for the passing of General (Ret) Ryamizard Ryacudu. May his soul be accepted by God, and all his sins forgiven,’ Jokowi said at the Sumber residence in Banjarsari, Solo.

Jokowi recalled Ryamizard as a leader known for his authenticity, stating he held strong principles while serving the nation.

‘He was a humble, firm, and courageous minister,’ he added.

Jokowi also offered prayers for the bereaved family to find strength during this difficult time, saying, ‘May the family left behind be granted patience and acceptance.’

Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at the age of 76 on Sunday, 31 May 2026, while receiving treatment at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta.

During Joko Widodo’s presidency as Indonesia’s seventh leader, Ryamizard served as Defence Minister in his first cabinet. Upon his appointment, Jokowi described him as a military officer with democratic and visionary thinking.
